Hi,

I live in Brooklyn, NY and am a first time homeowner :) I bought my condo several months ago and a couple weeks after I moved in, my real (not engineered) hardwood floor began to warp along my terrace wall. The developer/builder came back and sanded it down and replaced one section. Unfortunately, it has come back I'm looking for a flooring expert in my area that could do an analysis for me and help me get to the bottom of why this is happening. Let me know if there is any questions or more detail that I should ask and please PM me with any recommendations.

Thanks!

Didn't your developer/builder try to address the root of the problem, and fix it, before proceeding to repair the floor? :?

I might consider getting a reputable builder/contractor over there to figure out where the moisture's coming from, and how it's getting in and effecting the floor, do an alalysis, as you say, then fix the problem. Once repaired right, then call in a flooring contractor to repair the floor.

I *wish* my developer/builder addressed the root problem. They told me the root problem was a leak that they fixed in the past and that my original warping was due to this previous issue. It just took some time for the warping to surface. But now, because it is the same sections that are warping again, I just don't believe this is true. My downstairs neighbor has a leak in their bedroom ceiling and their bedroom ceiling is right below my terrace. I can't help but feel there is some connection there.

I'm putting up all my photos and will post a new thread on this. I appreciate any feedback and thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds to me that you dont need an inspector. If your neighbor has a leak in her ceiling right below the cupped floor then anyone with a 5th grade education can figure that out.

I bet Raybob could figure it out. lol Maybe.....

There's also forensic building inspectors out there. Costs a pretty penny. Better be ready to sign a contract allowing destructive analysis. You typically pay to have it put back. In this type of issue thats the only way to find out where the water/moisture is coming from. Water usually travels downwards but can go sideways many times. Then the vapor off the water goes upwards as well, if theres enough of it.

I hate to disagree, but I dont think it always takes a certified whatever whatever to find and fix water intrusion. I think the majority of cases are common sense. It's very possible that the original guy flaked on taking care of the problem, didn't bother looking for it, or just wasn't too brite.

I agree!

Moisture is woods enemy.

It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out you have moisture intrusion, but finding exactly where that moisture is coming from, in a multi unit building with privately owned units, can be a task for the superhero.

Call S/L Certified Inspection Service
I thing Steve is still in Harriman.
