A picture is worth a thousand words do you know of any good pics of borders. Looking for a site with an abundance of pics, I hit the photo section just need MORE. I want to do a floor in red and white oak, and some brazilan cherry, Was thinking about coming out about 12"or so in red, shipped lapped, Then running 1 white then 1.5 cherry, another white, another cherry then white, maybe 2 more in red then the feild in red. What do you think. I have a dozen patterns in my mind but an actual picture would be better.
Thanks
Steve

I'm not for mixing the red and white oak. Use one or the other. They are too similar to make much of a difference. If you want to use mostly red oak, then I'd suggest using maple instead of white oak (white oak is NOT white, BTW).

I'm not sure what you mean here, ship lapped? I know that's a style of siding but I don't see how that would apply to describing flooring. Also, if you know the species of woods you want to use, by a little of each and mess around with loose laying some borders. Try out different layouts and such. Ya know what they say, "a picture is worth a thousand words".

Shipped lapped, one board butted against the other that makes a corner, not a 45 degree angle. I did my saltwater fish stand in red and white oak and after 2 years you can still see the difference between the two.
I like the look of maple but I've been saveing a bit here and their and finally get to do my parents dining room free of charge. Thanks for the link.

Those corners, in floorman's terms, are called log cabin OR stair step. Or butt joints. If you like red and white oak, go for it. :)
