And I don't own a table saw. Does anybody know someplace online that sells small splines for engineered flooring? Here's the whole story...

I decided to go with some really inexpensive BR111 engineered flooring. (Budgetary restraints.)

I already installed the (sunken) living room floor and it looks great. I glued the boards together using the floating floor method of install.

So, now I'm ready to do the next room, the adjoining dining room and I start out with a 20 foot long stair nosing for the step down. I want to work towards the other wall from here, using the same, glue together method. So, it would help if I could spline the stair nosing and go from there.

It looks like the splines will need to be about 6 mm x 3 mm (maybe 7 x 3). I keep avoiding having to buy a table saw, is there any way around this? Ideas?

Maybe it won't be too hard to squeeze the glue into the piece on the floor, but it will slow me down. Anybody done that?

Thanks,
Carole

I don't think you will be able to spline the stairs nose to the floor unless you staple or glue the floor down. If the the floor floats and the nosing doesn't you will have problems at the joint.

Mickey is right. If you are floating the floor you want to use an overlapping stairnose. On another note most of us look for reasons to buy a new tool I have a bunch of things I bought for one job, now they come in handy from time to time.

I had planned to address the expansion by leaving a small gap at the stair nose. I have the proper expansion gaps where needed.

I don't mind buying tools, it's just that a table saw takes up more space. But I'm sure I'll get a lot of use out of it. This isn't the first time I wish I had one.

Not sure I understand that, how do you intend to leave a gap at stairnose.
