Hello ALL!
I know how to install hardwood floor (I did all my house incl steps), but now I need to sand about 400 sq feet of 15 y.o. Bruce hardwood floor at my parents house. I have never done this before. Floor has scratches but they are not very deep. Could you please advice me what is the best sanding machine I can rent?
What should I take ORBITAL FLOOR SANDER, Drum sander or belt Sender? Since I have no experience, what equipment will fit me the most? I understand that it’s easy to damage floor with sander.

Please advice.
Best Regards,
Greg

You really want to call a professional, my fine feathered friend. Nothing like installation. Finish and sanding is tricky. Unless you want to make a career out of it, pick up the phone. Plus this is a prefinished floor, Bruce which is the worst, very little, actually no room for error.

Sorry, but if you are still undeterred, you could probably do a search in the archives.

I concur, for that size job by the time you rent all the equipment and buy all the supplies it will cost almost as mush as having a pro do it. And trust me sanding sucks you don't want to do it.

I went to the local rent shop and they told me that the safest way is to rent orbital sander.
BTW I called professional and they want $1500 for this job. Tools and all will cost no more than $300.
I was watching many clips on YouTube, does not look very difficult to do.

That sounds like they are quoting you $3.00 per foot which is pretty crazy. If you try a orbital sander (square buffer) you will be sorry. It will take forever to sand a floor with it.

IF you want to try the machines we use , then try a big belt sander and edger . But be careful, you can ruin the floors. There's a ton of videos on how to use these machines on the internet.
