I'm going to be installing Kahrs Ash Cambridge floors through most of my house as a floating install. I started taking up the old parquet and it is leaving behind a slightly tacky black glue on the slab. Does this have to be removed, or can I just put the underlayment over it and float on top?

Thanks,

Ron

That black crud is most likely an old cut back asphalt adhesive. You'll never get it all up. Just roll your plastic vapor barrier over it. You are using a vapor barrier, right? After that, install your foam underlayment and wood. I can't see where removing that cutback is helpful at all. But cover it up so you're not tracking it all over your new floors.

Gary,

I was hoping that was the answer. The thought of trying to get that stuff up was frightening. The Kahrs underlayment I am using is a 2 in one and includes a vapor barrier. I may lay a seperate one just to keep the black stuff from tracking though. Thanks a million.
