First off, what a great service you pro's provide for us kooks. Thanks!

I live a quarter mile from the beach in Newport Beach, CA.
I'm going to install some 5/8 inch engineered brazilian maple in 3-inch planks, in the kitchen/dining/living room. I've got 5/8 inch plywood subfloor, well above grade, was hoping to install right onto that, after I remove tile.

Was told by a reputable floor store here that it's best at the beach to glue AND nail. Another installer said nailing alone is fine, cleats are better. Others use glue only.

I don't want to add work, but I want it to hold up. Advice? Heard anything about this kind of doubling up?

Thanks! Don

I think it is unnecessary for you floor, a 5/8" engineered in a 3" width. You can successfully nail or glue and it will perform fine. You biggest enemy will be all that sand you'll be bringing home.

thanks Gary! I felt the same but wanted to hear it from a pro.

Any feelings about cleats rather than nails or staples?
