Post subject: Murphys oil soap on hardwood floors
PostPosted: Mon Aug 09, 2004 2:43 am
What to do if I've used Murphy's Oil Soap--for a long, long time? This floor is ten years old and pretty beat up--aside from being Murphy-ized. I'm wondering what my options are (other than rip it out and start over).

Thank you!

Not to worry! Start using a good wood floor cleaner. No problem. You can have your floors refinished and they'll be like new.

As long as the floor is sound;i.e. it hasn't been given a weekly bath, you should be okie dokie. It would be a shame to rip out perfectly good wood.

You don't have to sand off much material to get back into pristine wood. Wax is a bigger problem than oil soap.

You will have to sand deeper then you would have had to, had you not used it. It takes more time sanding. Because multiple cuts may be needed to get past the oil.

If you don't cut past the oil, finishing nightmares will occur.
