Hello all,

We finally have a date to have our floor installed - 8/24. We got dinged with no vapor barrier in the crawl space and particle board sub-floor. But I digress...

The flooring we're having put down is 3 1/4", 4", and 5" walnut. Is there a random pattern  anyone can recommend? I don't want to leave it to chance and accidentally up with a glut of any one width at the end.

Thanks,
Lara

Hey, sounds like you have someone who knows their stuff calling you on the crawl space and PB. Go with what they say. The layout is another thing, work with the installer, that takes lots of time.

I was the one who pursued the vapor barrier and the change in subfloor - so thanks.

We asked about what they recommend for multi-width patterns and when he said they usually just do 3,4,5,3,4,5,3,4,5 I got nervous. But he said they'll do whatever pattern we want. That's why I thought I'd ask. Ultimately I suppose we can just work it out when they come.

You need to determine the pattern before you order the flooring.
Equal lineal footage will result in 3,4,5.

We don't get to pick how much of what. They're sending us "equal lineal footage" that totals 28.25 Sq. ft per box. I'd just prefer not to lay them so they look like "stair steps" (for lack of a better term). This is the flooring we're getting. http://realwoodfloors.com/workspace/media/uploads/support/downloads/chalet.pdf

I did a 3-4-5 recently with some Hartco, it was all in one box just like my old Village Plank.
