Greetings,

Am preparing for 600 sq' staple-down installation of 3/4" hardwood,
and have question on this particular subfloor; inspection of floor
from crawlspace underneath shows cdx plywood, while top surface
of subfloor is particle board, thickness of each not yet determined.

Even though there is plywood sheeting (nailed to joists) underneath
particle board subfloor, tear-out of particle board, or overlay w/cdx, is still recommended?

Shepherd.

thanks gary, read through the sticky; was thinking that if one could use staples long enough to drive down through the 3/4 hardwood, particle board, and into the plywood below, then perhaps the particle board could stay. not a good idea? never looking for short-cuts, or unnecessary work, and a bit undecided here. thx for your input...
