I am considering installing Mullican Austin springs or Bruce Lock & Fold flooring, Any feedback from users that have installed these products would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have not done the Mullican but have done the Bruce. I am not fond of the 5-G system as the ends can move slightly up and down, not totally loncked into each other but rather floating on top of the other. Even if your floor flatness is in the zone you can have squeaks.

floormeintucson,

Thanks for the reply. If am correct, it appears that the locking design on bruce differs from the Mullican(5G). Am I correct that you feel the locking desgn of Bruce is better?

Actually, the Bruce has the 2G system which just lays on top of one another...the 5G system has the interlocking tongue.

BW, is that true? I was looking at a picture of it and don't see any locking tongue on the end joint. The 5G is at the bottom and the 2G just shows the side joint which is a common locking mechanism used on both the end and sides. The 5G can be used together with and other locking mechanism on the side joint.

It's difficult to find a good picture of the Bruce end joint locking mechanism. This is as close as I can find.

Yea, see the red tongue on the 5g photo? It sticks out like a regular tongue but it is flexible, so when you push the next board down on top of it, it pushes out of the way then springs back into the groove on the adjoining board. You laid the Bruce, so you know how when you fold a board down into place, you can lift it right back up? With the 5g you can't, because the ends are locked...you have to unlock the entire row and slide the ends apart, or Mullican offers a "key" that you can slide in between the board ends to allow you to lift one single board.
