I am installing 2 1/4" X 3/4" solid strip. I have completed 2 rooms with a 6' opening between the 2. I left the groove end on one side and have cut to length the other end. See the following pictures . There is about a 2" gap. I had planned to put in a T-molding but my wife does not think it looks as good as using a header strip (like I did in the closet - see picture

Here's the questions? Do header strips generally look better than T-molding (in tis application)? If so, how difficult and what is the process for installing a header strip after both sides have already been completed?
Thanks!

Just out of curiousity, why didn't you just run the wood through the rooms without interruption?

This was my first flooring project. I wanted to get one room complete under my belt before going on to the other rooms. Besides, I really didn't have space to completely clear both rooms of the furniture. I only found out about running through after I finished both rooms. So with that said, is there hope to still do a good looking job of installing a header strip, and what is the process?
Thanks

No offense, buddyroe, but inserting a header in a doorway and having it wind up looking good would be pretty easy for me(though I would have to be very deliberate and precise all the way through the process). For you? I would go with the t- molding.

How exactly would one go about making the ends of already installed floor board closely enough aligned (straight across) to make the header. I'm replacing the foyer tile with hardwood, and two adjoing rooms already have hardwood installed. I would much prefer the look of the header to t-molding. I can get flush ends pretty easily except for the last board and a half on each end (block plane with shooting board on top), but I'm not too confident about the last little bits on each side. Is there any advice for handling that?
Thanks,
Butch
