Hi all,

So, I got my cheap moisture meter from ebay and have started poking and prodding around the subfloor. I had just pulled the carpeting back and was expecting high numbers since my crawlspace isn't exactly a desert.

...so what readings do I get? ... 4-8% moisture content.

For comparisons:

- a bamboo flooring peice that has been out of box for 3 days(house is 50%RH) reads 4-8%, while one that was from a box with just one end opened reads 6-12%...in both cases, it depends on where I prod.

- my outside decking runs from 1-20% depending on location(top of decking vs 4x4 support 3" from grade.

- My finger reads 35-37%, while my forearm is 25%.

I was prepared to see 12-14%...is there such a thing as a "too dry" subfloor? What would it read in January?

Is there anything about plywood's structure that would contribute to this?

regards,

Pete
