I had an engineered wood floor installed on a ground level concrete slab. Moisture readings taken at the time of installation with an elctronic meter were between 3.0 and 5.0 before a sealant was applied. Two coats of sealant ( I do not remember the brand, may have had the suffix "tex" in the name) were applied about an hour apart. After the sealnt had been allowed to dry for two days the moisture readings were the same. The contractor guaranteed me that this would not be a problem even after I asked him if we should pick a more suitable floor. To make a long story short, 6 months later the flooring is buckling and an anhydrous calcium chloride test registered around 13 in the two places that flooring was removed. Contractor and supplier will not honor warranty. We had carpet on this floor before the wood was installed and never had any kind of moisture problems or mold issues. Will installing the wood floor trap moisture in the slab and elevate the moisture content?
