I'm installing 7/16" engineered wood plank (1/8" Santos Mahogany; 5/16" Pine). I've read that the probe type of meters are more accurate than the pinless types. Is that true? To avoid piercing the face of the Santos Mahogany plank with holes, can I pierce it on its side to get the MC reading? I have not installed the planks yet.

I wouldnt. There's going to be plenty of cut peices that have to be made and the excess just throw away. Just probe it near the edge where it will be covered with shoe. Plus the holes are tiny andfrom a standing position with a litty putty will be hard to find.

Thanks, Kevin. Do you have any recommendations for wood moisture meters under $200?
