We are working on a kitchen remodel which entails taking out the wall between the kitchen and family room. The FR has aged Brazilian cherry that was installed 5 years ago. I'd like to continue the Brazilian cherry into the kitchen, which would mean adding new to the aged. I know it would be lighter to begin with but a) would it ever be the same color as the wood in the FR and b) how long would that take? I don't mind waiting for it to age to the same coloration (as long as we're not talking years), but if it would always be a noticeably different tone, I'd rather forget it and go with tile. Any advice is GREATLY APPRECIATED. We're really at a standstill with this one.

Brazilian Cherry has a lot of variation. But your right, it will look like night and day at first with the existing. All depends on the lighting, or sunlight you have in the rooms, as to the length of time it takes for photosynthesis to affect the shade of the wood.

On patching repairs in the past..I have set Brazilian Cherry boards outside in the sun for a while. You would be amaized how quickly they darken. Iv'e even heard of people racking it out in their warehouse under heat lamps.

Well I cant say without a doubt, considering all the variables. I have no idea if your going with different mills. And where the mills harvested the wood, etc.

Ran into the exact situation with BR-111 Brazilian Cherry. The customer was skeptical, so I had them call the mill. The owner actually called them back, and assured them. Ofcoarse they went with the same Manufacturer. Wouldn't be a bad idea to call yours as well,( as long as you can talk to someone in the know).
