I wanted to run a perimeter boarder with a contrasting hardwood and I am trying to figure out how to attach the mitres. I was going to dado each side of the mitre and glue a piece of spline to one side and then glue and pin tack them together, unless there is an easier way.

A bisquit joiner works good on ends, so your not weekening the tip of the 45. Plus a bisquit is thinner and deeper, works better on ends. But I don't see why what your saying won't work. I would hold the slot and spline back from that 45 tip. Another option to a 45 degree border is to use a basketweve pattern, I'm kinda partial to that.

Thanks, I think the biscuit joiner would be quicker and stronger.
