I have seen different techniques with regard to 2 or three strip perimeter frames around a room. I sometimes see mitered corners and at other times see "weaves" or "log cabin" or "butt and pass" corner or whatever it is called.

What are the thoughts of the group on what looks best / holds up best? Is one type mor etraditional than the other?

Both styles, mitered and log cabin corners, have been used for centuries. In a T&G floor, the log cabin style allows the joint to be T&G engaged. You will need to make grooves and add spline sometimes. With the miter, grooves and splines need to be used to keep the joints flush with each other and aid keeping the joints tight. I've used both. The mitered joints seem to be more noticable to me.

Either look you prefer. Sometimes I will incorporate both in the same floor. To me, mitering is a little more difficult to get tight , and stay tight. As already posted all corners do need to be grooved and splined using yellow glue.
