I'm putting down 5/16 engineered wood using staples. My fireplace has a marble slab for a hearth and I would like to frame it. My planks are 2 5/8". Should I use one row or two? How do I attach the mitered corners to each other? Thanks

One is fairly standard, But two also looks nice. Put one in and lay a few peices out to see how you like it (nail the entire picture frame in first, because weather you decide on one or two, the first one will stay lol). As far as securing them to each other, first when you cut your 45's be sure to cut one of them on a slight inward angle (I usually put a pencil under the board instead of using the compound miter bit. Then glue along where the picture frame will go, a few nails in the top of the boards if needed, and nail in the tounges much like strating the first few rows. I also glue the first 4 inces of the boards that attach to it, also the tounges. If you want to get really crazy you can route and spline the 45's but its not neccicary.

Hope that helped

I have this same questions, but I am not nailing my floors down I am gluing them down. If I want to 45 the corners how would that work since I will be cutting the grove off the end of the board?

If you are glueing them down only, I would highly recomend routing and splining them together.

In the early days before I had tools and was the helper. The guy I was helping, would just cut them get them into the black glue and tape it all together, then he would lay a board on top of the mitered corner and weight it down overnight.

Worked well with a goo-down.
