Sorry I have only seen the wagner r/h test in trade publications. I live in an are where the only concrete slabs are commercial and or multi-family units which neither are places where wood floors are common. So my concrete slab experiences are about a 1 in a hundred vs basement /crawl space construction. Just out of curiosity, did you buy the kit yourself or hire a company to come out and do the test? Id like to get into some consulting just not sure of the liability and market.

KevinD, no worries. I did not buy the kit. The kit is over $400. I had a company come out and do it.

FYI as an update. Looking at 6 mil with a Quite Walk pad, is that enough (or too much), should it be 8 mil or 10 mil? The RH again was 85% for the concrete slab.

I ordered a Calcium Chloride test and a 100g scale for $40 (includes 3 tests)

I will do the test and see what the real value is of moisture vapor transmission is.

Hopefully if it is low (not thinking it will be) I can just do a very good pad with built in moisture barrier.

I use the Rapid Rh on my slabs all the time, and also as a third party for companies.

If you have cutback residue or any sealer or adhesive residue on the slab it has to be ground off before attampting any Calcium chloride test.

Plus the interior needs to have the hvac running and be at service temp 4 days prior to any ASTM F 2170-11 or ASTM F 1869-11.

I see that the RH testing is 85% no mfg I know will allow you to install wood over 75% RH no matter what you do with vapor retarders, note retarder not barrier, even products, and there are many, that profess they will work with up to 95% RH, WATCH FOR IT NOW, require a ground cover under the slab in order for the warranty to be honored.

I am looking at VersaShield, up to 95% RH.

Any input on that?
