What do you guys like?

I use a mini ligno analog. It is kind of a pain to use,but it is dead on accurate. You do the corrections using a table.

I like the delmhorst j-2000,but it gives the same reading as my little pos.

You still have to make corrections with the 2000. You just do them before, rather than after.

How do you know if the meter you are using is accurate? I have a meter I bought from my distributor 8 yrs. ago. It is made by Moisture Register Products and is a pin style. It comes with a book of tables for different woods and an ABC switch for different densities of woods. I do not know how accurate or inaccurate it is. How can one be tested?

Easy. Just use it along with another, more expensive meter. If they both read the same, odds are they are both accurate.

I have used mine in conjunction with a borrowed j-2000. It is accurate.

My Protimeter came with a little gizmo to calibrate it with. It was what looked to be stainless wire, stretched between plastic towers. I lost that long ago, but I know that I always read 22%, on my finger. On my meter, that translate to; "decay inevitable" OUCH! Guess it must still be in range??

A meter you can calibrate yourself? Purty neat. mine has a function for checking the calibration, but if it is off, you have to send it in for repair.

same goes for the Delmhorst j-2000

My Wagner L-612 also came with a calibration plate. One used to check and re-calibrate. You can also do a bake test to check your meter.
