The hardwood for my hallway ends flush against the doorway into a room with carpeting.

Now I want to merge a new install into that room.

Is this as simple as chiseling back six inches every other board? How would the pros handle this? What's a good way to make the cuts? I prefer not to replace the whole board as the new wood isn't a perfect color match.

Thanks.

eh- forgive the crude 'drawing'

I usually put in a header strip going the other direction, as most customers don't want to pay for the labor th weave the 2 floors together. If you want to weave them in it will be easier for you to remove full boards rather then try to cut a nice end in every board.
