I am a homeowner who recently had the floors in two bedrooms refinished in a 1940s home in CA. The floors are oak. The floors were supposed to match the rest of the house, which has a finish that is 20 years old and surprisingly in relatively good shape. The finish on the older sections of the house is a light yellowish color, with still a relatively good sheen. The recently refinished floors were done with a water-based finish (BonaVivia - I believe - not sure of spelling). They are not light like the existing floors, nor do they have any sheen. Any suggestions? I have been told that preparing the wood with two glaze coats and then a water based finish will achieve the same look as the existing floors, but I have already read that oil-based finishes have an orange tint so I am not sure if this "glaze" process will result in orange-ish floors. The floors in the older sections of the house are not at all orange, if anything I would describe them as light yellow.
