I have recently removed carpetting in one room and am replacing it with 3/4" hard wood floor. There are two door frames (no doors), one single and one double that have existing 3/4 " hardwood floors installed to the frame. A standard Oak board (no tongue and groove) was used as a transistion. One frame is 6 feet and the other is 3 feet. The new floor will run parallel to the three foot opening and perpendicular to the 6 foot opening. Do I need to worry about the end of the floor pieced butting up against the 6 foot Oak board without tongue and groove "connection"? OR can I simply face nail the end of the floor baords at the Oak board?

Someone assisted me with some issues that I had regarding two hardwood floors meeting with different types of wood on each.

You can make a slip tongue out of oak to reverse direction.

In addition, someone suggested feature strips (which I am going to install due to $$$) http://www.hardwoodinstaller.com/hardwo ... -strip.htm
or a border that is used as a threshold. http://www.hardwoodinstaller.com/hardwo ... orders.htm

This really saved me from some sleepless nights.
