Came across a brand new installation. The instructions on the carton say "to glue". I called the factory office. They confirmed that the product is only warranted for glued installation. After he made that statement he asked me, "is there a problem with the floor". Not a very comforting question considering the warranty is void if the product is not installed as per the instructions of the manufacturer. I asked him to email me the installation instructions for my particular Margaritelli product. He declined. He said they don't do that. I asked him if he specified specific installation instructions in architectural submittals. He said yes. I asked him to send me a submittal, he said no.
Here is the issue. The buyer initially stated that under no uncertain terms could the floor "squeak". He walked the floor for about 3 hours checking for "squeaks". (among other things) The sales rep knew where this guy stood. Absolutely no squeaks. Representing the buyer, I immediately asked for the floor manufacturer, style, model #, etc. They balked and balked and delayed some more. I finally found out what the flooring was. It states that it has to be glued down. It is not. The sub-floor is concrete over metal decking in a high rise. Apparently, they could not float the concrete straight enough so they decided to put plywood down and lay the manufactured hardwood over the plywood. Any input on what I have described so far? Is the name of the game get it done and don't look back? Is there a wink and nod between manufacturer and floor contractor on warranty?
