if you stencil off the effected area to a full board entity with blue tape..sand the area with a fine grit paper..180 until you have it fully abraded...work on the pitted edge to feather it as best possible without effecting the color..

wipe it clean with a damp cloth,...thoroughly mix your poly..

and apply liberally..don't flood..but do not ski coat it..it help to coat gross grain first..then straiten it out..just to make sure you have sufficient poly.

this also helps prevent bleeding under the tape..

remove tape tight away carefully..let dry and avoid area..should fix you up.

no need to replace your floor ..it is all correctable..unless you just don't like Maple..

Thanks James, does it mean I can individually fix patches of damaged areas and still have the floor looking clean? I have about 10+ areas on the floor that I'd like to fix, remove dust/hair by sanding down and then re-filling with poly. Do you think it can be done?

Thanks!

I dont think I would recommend doing this many patches.

a full recoating should be your consideration.

Unless you use the same exact finish as the original, you are going to notice every board you recoat, in reflective lighting.
