When we bought our 1904 home we were told there were hardwood floors underneath the carpet. We recently pulled the carpet up. The floors are in alot better condition that I thought they would be. The only BIG problem is that it looks like the previous owners decided to fix any squeaks by nailing down penny nails along ALL of the floor joists. About every foot and a half all the way across the room is a row of nails. Can we punch the nails in a little, fill the top with wood putty, sand, and stain and not be able to tell there used to be nails there? If not, what is a good way to make it so the nails aren't visible? Help!
