First, hello all.

We just purchased a home with hardwood flooring, and the person did not know what they were doing... obvious even to me.

They did not prepare the subfloor properly and it squeaks in places, and where it would not lay flat, they sunk in about 20 or so brad nails in a 5 inch area.

I do have a few questions, as I have never had hardwood flooring before and am not sure what to do.

They left us stacks of the wood (unfinished), which I can find nothing about... it is called Kirandy (anyone else heard of this before), it is stained a Pecan color on the floors, but how can I tell if it is waxed or urathane coated? It does scratch very easily.

Thanks for your time.

If your not satisfied that it was a professionally done job, make them fix it.

In a closet, near the corner or somewhere else not very visible, put a few drops of water on the floor. If the area turns white it is a wax floor, if it does not it is something else, Urethane, varnish or an oil finish.

Where are you located?

In order to achieve what the competition cannot grasp, we must complete what they will not attempt. Nobody ever said it would be easy, but it's darn sure worth it.
