I've posted on here several times and have finally decided to install engineered flooring over my soon to be concrete flooring. I live in San Antonio and have looked about the area to seek out a flooring dealer/installer. Can anyone give me any recommendations?

My wife and I visited one store, and actually found an engineered product that she liked (Hickory, selling for 4.75/ft), the problem is that the sales staff really were clueless as to their product line. Granted it was a young guy who looked after us, but he had no idea if the floor could be floated or not, whether it was suitable to lay over concrete, etc. and granted he was trying to make a sale, but kept recommending products that we didn't even express an interest in (actually we had told him specifically what we wanted). This was reinforced when he told me he'd call me back with some other flooring options, only to call me back and yet again recommend flooring that I had no interest in, totally opposite of what we talked about. In the end for the flooring that my wife picked out, the cost for approx. 1,000 sq ft is going to be about 9-10K installed, and that's AFTER I move the furniture and remove the carpeting myself. Does this sound about right?

I don't want to name the store, but I'll say that it is supposedly one of the highly recommended stores in the area from what I've read, except my experience w/ them has been less than ideal. Of course I asked the young salesman if he could give me the name of an on-line supplier for this 'hickory product' and he refused to do so.

Any help is appreciated...I really would like to get this done this summer.

Thats a little low unless your getting a click lock engineered. Glue down may cost another 2 bucks for adhesive and moisture mitigation system. Thats if your using a real contractor who knows what he is doing.

If I was you and had the money I'd go get me some Texas Mesquite since your like right there http://www.mesquitewoodproducts.com/about.html I just got some from them, 5" and working on some sample boards. You can glue down the 1/2 inch if you know what your doing.

I saw another online that had qctual engineered mesquite, something like Faifer??? Got a call into them to see if is actual native American mesquite, I'm sure it is.

Thanks for the information...I showed my wife the mesquite and while I liked it, she thought it looked too rustic. I was able to speak to the owner of the store that I mentioned earlier and he apologized for the 'bad' experience, so this afternoon I am going over to speak w/ the owner in regards to getting the floor that my wife wants installed.

I would like to try it myself, but when it comes to glueing, I do not trust myself, especially when I am going to be investing that kind of money. Besides, the defects in my workmanship is only guaranteed by me...:) and it would take me quite some time to finish the project as opposed to about 3 days by 'them'.

Again, thanks for the recommendations.

Paul
