Well it looks like I'm going to be installing my first Bruce Lock & Fold job. 1800 sq. ft. that Pro Source sold this designer.
All I've been hearing from y'all is the creaking, and you wont install it anymore.
Does it creak right after you lay it down? Or does it take some time? Has Armstrong addressed this problem?
What other queerks do I need to know about this quality product

It creaks right away. One of my buddys installed one about 2 weeks ago and as of then it creaked so ne I don't think they have done anything about it. As for other things to watch out for yes there is SPLINTERS.

Nice, I'm not sure the best way to handle the creeking :? Do I bring it up before I start the job, and protect myself, and open a can of worms, with the designer & ProSource ? Or do I start installing it and bring it up? It's a lose lose situation. I cant believe Armstrong is still sending that stuff out, with that problem :x

Thanks for the inside on the splintering.

I think you should "play dumb" for the start of the installation, and if the floor is creaking when you install it, stop the project, and alert your client to this fact.
If it starts to creak after you install it, I dunno; say "it wasnt creaking when I installed it" so cant be your fault, i guess. I really don't know.
Most reputable thing to do would be to advise all parties prior to install that you have heard of this issue from other installers.
Its a tough call, and entirely in your ballcourt.

No real help there, I know.

I went over to my distributor and brought it up, and they played dumb
So that's probably good advice.

It's been my experience with the valinge locking systems that if there is a problem with the milling or the wax application on the locking system, the squeaking/creaking issue will be noticeable from the start. Then, like Dennis said, you stop the install and notify everybody involved so the distributor can get you new material.

The only time I've really seen noise issues arise with that locking system after-the-fact has been due to insufficient expansion space, or homes where the consumer doesn't use HVAC and they get constantly changing environmental conditions from day to night.
