Hi guys.
Here in Connecticut, I've sanded a lot of vertical grain fur and even more vertical grain heart pine.Somewhat similar woods but different in color ,hardness and sap content.

I have a customer with an old house and vertical grain heart pine floors and am having a hard time locating material to do a weave that he wants done.Local suppliers have calls out to locate some and I'm waiting to hear back.

Any advice is appreciated.Thank you.

It's hard to find good pics of the exact material but check out the board farthest to the right in this JPEG. Straight grain and showing both heart and sap areas.

Also check out the two boards furthest right in this JPEG

Well, if you are unable to locate matching material, what we have done on occasion is to designate one room as "sacrificial" and carefully removed that for repair material in other locations. Customer would then select an alternate for that one space. Of course, if there is only one area of the house in question, this approach wont work.

Hi.Not a bad idea. But as you mentioned, there isn't a hidden donor area .It's just two open rooms on the 1st floor.

I did find a local company that has reclaimed lumber and handles the milling too. They want $16.00 per square foot .I need to weave in about 35 to 40 square feet which brings the cost of material up to about $650.00 for material. That's pretty scary.

They have to be quoting you reclaimed heart pine for that kind of cash. You could save about 11 or 12 bucks a foot if they can stand new heart pine. If they want an exact match there going to have to pony up!

Shoot me an e-mail. I can locate material for you, and can probably have it drop shipped.
