I am overlaying my basement stairs with 3/4" hardwood this weekend. My question: Is it ok to use Liquid Nail Construction adhesive or should I use something else?

Right on the side of Liquid Nails, it says not for wood flooring.

Get a tube, or 3 of PL Premium Urethane. It is in a bright yellow cartridge.

Ya, liquid nail has very little use where any strength is needed, such as a stair where you will be walking.
Any urethane based adhesive will do the trick, should suppliment with brads to hold everything tight whilst the glue sets up.
