Does anyone have any experience using the Lignomat Scanner SDM non-invasive moisture meter? It touts that it can measure the MC in concrete as well as woods. It allows you to measure either at 1/4" or 3/4" depths.

Question:

1.) If I'm going to perform a CaCl test, is it necessary to know the MC at 3/4"? From what I understand, the CaCl test only picks up moisture only a 1/4" deep.

2.) Do you know if the S, D, or SD (not the SDM) models can detect the MC of concrete? The rep said that the S and D didn't but the SD and SDM could, but I wanted to double check with you guys.

Thanks!

I have a cheapy lignomat pin meter so not familiar with that other one. My Tramex is my primary one. I do not like non-invasive meters to test content, just a pin meter. Non-invasive ones are good for checking laminate or looking for wet spots.

But the cacl test, 3 for the first 1000sf and one per the next 1000sf. I would do more if it were mine and some along suspect outer walls if grading is off. Also if you get high readings and decide to use a trowel on retarder or roll on I would do some sfter the fact as well.

I don't have any grading issues, but I do have several shrinkage cracks in the subfloors. Would the CaCl test results get skewed if I placed the test on top of these cracks? I mean, the clear cover is supposed to seal all around the area to be tested, if there were a crack, wouldn't the vapors escape through the crack?

FYI, you do not put it over a crack because of vapos from the concrete entering the dome, it is because it will not seal properly and let in air. Just thought you'd like to know why.
