Hey, new guy here. Just seeking some advice for my layout. I purchased this house last year. I refinished the original oak 1.5" x 3/8" t&g boards in the Living room (LR) and Dining room (DR). The whole upstairs is original oak same boards and refinished the same. So now I am trying to figure out what to do to get rid of the tile in the entry way at the front door of the house as well as the engineered wood (real dark and shiny) in the kitchen and Family room (FR).
1) Would you stay with 1.5" x 3/8" oak strip and site finish them for the entryway, kitchen and FR so everything matches the DR and LR I refinished? OR would you switch to a thicker 3/4" x 1.5" board for the entryway, kitchen and Family room? I've had some cupping of the 3/8" boards due to humidity. I've since installed a humidifier and believe the issue is rectifying itself and the floors are flattening. I have to assume tho 3/4" is more dimensionally stable than these 3/8ths".
2) Would you keep the boards going in the same direction as currently in the DR and LR when installing them in the kitchen, entry and FR? Strangely the boards are parallel with the floor joists. The upstairs is parallel too (same direction as downstairs DR and LR).. The kitchen and FR make for a very long room, and laying them in same orientation as DR and LR would mean they would be going the short direction of the room (front to back of room) instead the long direction. Thanks!
