I would like to install 5/8 bamboo diagonal to my floor joists. It is going on 3/4 ply in old (30 y/o) construction. It is above grade over a finished space. Should I use 15# felt on top of ply? What waste factor should I figure for diagonal? Any other problems anyone can think of would be helpful.
Thank You

You should be able to go at a diagonal, especially if you have joists spaced 16 inches.

Yes, use 15 # asphalt impregnated felt paper.

Waste is going to depend on board width. Strip flooring, you can get by with 5% if it is a big job. Plank may have more waste, like 10%, especially if the boards arn't so good to begin with.

It's bamboo. Make sure to check it and the subfloor with a pin type wood moisture meter, making sure you get readings of 2% difference or less before you install the bamboo. That's true acclimation. A hygrometer is a plus, if you know what temp & rH, determines what the moisture content of the boards should be.

Thanks for your response. My next question is, what is the best way to start a diag. layout? Should I run from snapped line to wall one direction, glue in a spline and then run the other direction? Does the spline HAVE to be same specie, or can i use something stable like mdf?[/b]
