I am installing some 3/4 solid maple hardwood on my main floor over top of plywood. I am coming up on a wall and have my last 3 rows to do. My Bostitch MIII can not make it into this space anymore, I have a 15 guage bostitch nailer that is to big to get the correct angle for these last 3 boards as well.

I do not want to face nail these last 3 rows,
What is the preferred or recommended method to fasten these last 3 rows before the wall?

I also have a bostitch 18 gauge brad nailer, is this enough nail to do the last 2 rows?
Should I glue down these last 3 rows? If so, what are the recommended glues to use (I do not have a moisture problem)?
If I glue down these last 3 rows, should I also use the 18 gauge nailer as well for a little extra holding while the glue sets?

How about stair nosing? I read the articles but are still uncertain with what to do about the nosing. Do I glue this down as well? Does it need to be face nailed in addition to the glueing? If I need to nail the nosing down, where is the best place to nail the nosing and how often do I need to nail it down?

Thanks so much

Face nailing the last few rows is NORMAL and specified by ALL flooring manufacturers. It's up to the installer to disguise the nail hole to the best of his/her ability. We do that by nailing into the darker, open grain of a particular board and filling the hole with a matching colored putty/filler. You can/may use a water free solvent based construction adhesive such as PL 400 for the last few rows and perhaps placing a nail here and there to hold it while the glue is drying. This is what I do when fastening flooring under cabinets and toe-kicks.

How wide are these rows? I am assuming this is wide stuff since the MIII will only get within a foot of the wall.

I usually skip the last row I can't toe with my stick nailer and face nail the remaining rows. I do toenail the tongues on the row I skip. I know it sounds like a cheesy shortcut, but that row can't go anywhere because it is held down on both sides.

My maple hardwood is 2 1/4 inches wide and I am about 6 1/2 inches away from the wall I am approaching. Now I can not use the MIII or the 15 gauge nailer but I could get my 18 gauge nailer in there. Can I glue down the last 3 rows and nail through the tongue on these boards using only a 18 gauge nailer?

When you face nail you last board or two, how often do you place the nails? Every 8 inches or less than that? Do you add any glue to the boards as well?

A dab of glue in spots down the board on the tongue side and the brad nails will work just fine.

Thanks so much for all the comments, I will start to tackle this tomorrow and finish off a couple of rooms. I was hoping that a little glue with some Brad nails would work.

Thanks a bunch!
