Okay, I put down 3/4" thick 5" wide pre-finished T&G oak flooring in my office. I'm to the final 2 full rows and then I'll have about a 2" wide row that I'll have to rip down. My question is on the 2 full rows, I cannot fit my flooring nailer or my 15ga finish nailer in there any longer. I know I can face nail and I'm sure that's what you guys will suggest however I wanted to know how many fasteners and what is the best product to use to hide them. The nailing schedule for the 5" plank is 8" so do I maintain that or is it okay to go a little farther between so I don't have as many holes to fill?

Thanks,

Jeff

I will usually avoid top nailing pre-finished, (except a nosing). Usually toenail with an 18 gauge nailer and can get within say 7-8" of the wall. I use more fasteners than the usual 8" schedule, and zig zag PL Urethane adhesive,( cut back the underlayment). Ofcoarse the last row is topnailed where the base covers. If I cant toenail the second to last row, or in your situation a couple rows,( due to the larger nailer), then gluing with the PL does the trick, then wedge it tight topnailing at the wall, under the base.

I have an 18ga nailer as well. I can try that and see if I can get at least one more row with that. I didn't even think about the adhesive. Don't know why it didn't occur to me.

Thanks!

Jeff

Was able to do one more row with the urethane adhesive and my 18 ga nailer. One more full width row with adhesive only and then the filler row 2" wide nailed into place with 15 ga nails.

Thanks again for the help!

Jeff

Don't ever under estimate an 18 gauge brad nail. For what it is, they hold better than you would expect.
