Seems we are overwhelmed with choices. We are in the beginning stages of a kitchen redo. The flooring choices are unbelievable - tile, laminate, engineered, hardwood...1/2", 3/4" etc etc ...... My daughter suggested this flooring for our Kitchen redo ....

Thoughts?

Personally I would not put LL in my house. Buy manufactured in the states to HVPA standards. Several manufacturers have this in their literature and even printed on the box.

We are located in northern VA just a bit south west of our nation's capital. The carpet on the first floor is 20+ years old and we are redoing the kitchen with a new floor plan, new cabinets, and appliances. We have about 750 sq ft of floor to do ... the foyer, to the left is the living room, to the right is the dining room, straight ahead is the kitchen eating area and to the right is the kitchen. The den is to the left of the kitchen eating area and we plan on leaving that room with carpet. We like to entertain (especially in the kitchen). Our children are grown and have their own families. We have no pets. We visited a couple of flooring stores (including the big box stores) and have been impressed with Anderson Flooring especially these two:

Smokehouse

Can anyone share "the good, the bad or the ugly" about these products/brand? Thanks.

Ken

I like Anderson and I also like the three different width look, I have a 3-5-7 width floor myself. It seems to be making a comeback.

I'm planning on installing porcelain tile (same height as the 3/4" floor) with a small 1 1/2 " floor drain under the fridge and dishwasher so no hardwood under those two spots,

And we seem to be leaning toward the Smoke Hose flooring - a little heavier, a little harder 1820psi and with a matted vs satin finish ....... It would be a DIY project if the space was more open and less of it (I've got 750 sq ft) but at $10.50/sq ft installed I may have to start selling apples on the street corner for some extra cash to pay for this. .....

Good for you, many people do not understand why a quality manufactured hardwood is more expensive than a cheap imported one.

Hi Ken,
I lived in Springfield for many years and currently live in Tampa, FL. Just last week I had 900 sq. ft. of ceramic tile removed (what a mess) and had 5" engineered hardwoods installed in an area of 1030 sq. ft.
I researched my project for at least a year. There are so many choices when selecting wood. I personally wanted to make sure that the wood product was manufactured in the USA and I wanted a wood flooring installer that would quote an all-inclusive price -- no extras. The engineered hardwood flooring was manufactured by a company not far from you in Danville, VA -- Columbia Flooring. Based on my experience, $10.50 sq. ft is probably not excessive considering you live in Northern VA. I just spent $11.50 sq. ft., but I had to have a 4-man crew come in and first remove 900 sq. ft of tile and then lay a floor of 1030 sq. ft.

Thanks Citadel, floor is looking pretty nice. Quality is looking good; floor is shining and seems less slippery.
