Hi all---

I'm looking for some advice for my kitchen floor. Currently what I have is 2 layers of vinyl sheet over 1/2" plywood underlay, over vinyl tile (probably asbestos), over plank subfloor. The subfloor appears to be original (read really old) but in very good shape from what I can see from the basement below.
The floor is not level, naturally, but appears to be fairly flat. The adjacent room, a breakfast knook, has face nailed pine floors 9" wide planks. Ideally, I would like to match the kitchen floor to this pine. I was thinking I could remove the plywood and top 2 layers of vinyl, and face-nail pine over the vinyl tile. Is this a reasonable thing to do? I've done a fair number of projects around the house, but never a wood floor. Face nailing seems fairly straightforward, though.
I am also leaning toward unfinished to better be able to match the adjacent floor. There seems to be a huge variation in price for unfinished pine flooring--what is a reasonable price to pay?

I have also thought of doing a floating floor--either cork or forbo, but I really think the pine would look best and be more true to the house.

Anyway, any and all thoughts are welcome. Thanks!
