Hi,

We're interested in a Kahrs Beech floating floor and hope you can help…

1. Beside price, finish warranty, and some minor size differece, what's the difference between Kahrs-Builders-Beech and Kahrs-Original-Beech-Cambridge?

The Kahrs site seems to say both finishes are UV cured acrylic urethane, so is there a significant difference? Kahrs also says Beech-Cambridge has "high shade variation" and provides no info on Builders-Beech. Should we expect Builders-Beech to have high or even higher shade variation? Is Builders-Beech a noticeably lower grade product?

2. We need to install a stair nose perpendicular to the planks in a floating installation. Kahrs offers an Overlap nose and a Flush Woodloc nose. We'd rather not use an Overlap nose because there would be a hump. For the Flush nose, will the nose Woodloc fit perpendicularly into the end groove of the planks? Is it possible to reverse direction of these planks (which would make life easier)?

Thanks for your help,

Sien

I have not installed any of the Builder line yet, so I can't offer much there.

You can reverse directions with Kahrs Woodloc. The flush nosing's are made for stair treads where everything is glued down. The overlap nosing is used at the first step down so the floor will still float.

The difference is the warranty. The finish and milling are the same. The products are not interchangeable, though. The builder stuff is made in Norway and is a about a foot shorter plus the tongue is on the other end of the board. By the way, if you buy Kahrs over the internet there is no warranty anyway.

If they sell it, then who ever sold it must put a warranty on it, especially here in Texas! They passed a law here a year and a half ago, if it is sold as new, it must have at least a one year warranty.

Labor warranties are no longer one year here either. If it is found to be installed out of manufacturers specs or industry standards, you will be responsible for correction or replacement, when ever the cut corner is found. That could be 5-10 or more years down the road.
