Hello,

I am trying to figure out how to do things right. Imagine that you are installing nail-down hardwood in the room with an island in the middle. When you reach an island, you go around it to the left and to the right, and finally the first complete board behind an island connects left and right runs together, and then you continue as if there were no island.

In my case, I have 2 entrances to the room with a staircase between them. I afraid that "left" and "right" runs around a staircase will run off and by the time I need to join them together they'll be 1/2 inch off each other, so I won't be able to "join" them smoothly.

Anybody experienced the same? Any advise?

Thanks!

you need to establish some control lines so you can keep checking and adjusting as needed as you proceed. Dont wait to you get to the wrap to check by then its too late. There is a great tutorial with pics that's floating around here somewhere.

Where is that tutorial Kevin, I like to read those. So many guys with just as many methods. I am certain Ken has one on this site somewhere. http://www.hardwoodinstaller.com/hardwo ... ating2.htm

I have always worried and had nightmares before I start a project with a big wrap around.
I mean big time stress.

As I go, I keep control lines to measure off of, but every time, I have never had to adjust one.

Just keep it tight and it goes smooth.

Those dang things are all hard wether or not your gluing or fastening or floating. Your at the mercy of the manufacturers milling and your patience. Here is one I did recently, it is a floater, gluing the T&G.

I have one page that deals with the issue...different reasons why they may not wrap either.

I think everyone, I mean everyone has missed "a wrap" at one time or another.

Yup, did that long time ago on a gluedown, not by much though. Still had to rip and re-groove a few pieces but you could not tell.
