Hi Guys,

Looking for a little advice on a job I didn't want to take, but things are slow and need to.

Job is a entry/kitchen teragren bamboo 5/8" install. Issue is the subfloor is 1/2" ply with 5/8" particle board overtop. Customer will not go for letting me remove the particle board and replacing with ply. Is willing to signoff on that.

On the plus side the small entry is all ply, and must have been a repair in the kitchen where it has ply by the sink at least. but the rest is particle board ontop throughout rest of kitchen/eating area. Also not as even as I would like but is still in spec.

I hate the entire idea, but if I have to do it i'm not sure if I should glue down, or just cleat.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

If the client will sign off then I would do it if you need the work.

IMO thats a job I would walk away from. Read the manufacturers requirements. The home owner will make you eat it. If you have to glue and fasten.

The customer signing off means nothing. Your the pro if you don't follow the requirements your responsible. Can you do a floating the floor?

Just a thought as I have a similar situation with a future job I bid. The home owners subfloor is all particle board, so we will be covering the entire floor with a 3/8" certified underlayment like Multiply and glue a 1/2" engineered 3" wood product down. Not sure if this is feasable for your situation due to flooring height differences or raising the floor too much for clearance issues....doors, appliances etc...Guess convincing the customer of the added expense is a factor as well.

Another option may be to try to get them to go with a floating floor as someone else stated from Laminate to those new snap together "wood" floors with the true veneer on the top of the board or a wood floor designed to be tongue and groove glued to float? Atleast with these products a good thin pad like Shaw Silent Step Ultra works wonders for minor floor imperfections and some comfort underfoot.

Good luck, hope work picks up for ya!

Yea, hopefully they didn't purchase yet. There's some stranded click out there as well as engineered bamboo you can glue the T&G and float.
