Im considering IPE as a material for my covered, not enclosed porch floor.
I dont want a 'deck' appearance so im looking at tongue and groove to get a smooth surface.
I can get the IPE in 5/4 or 4/4 but would prefer the heavier board .
Where my joist spacing is insuffficient im adding some PT joists for support.
My question is regarding nailing down this wood .. has anyone nailed down this material, through the tongue and into the joists/subfloor or am I going to have a problem with splitting or nailpenetration? I would prefer not to have to face nail/screw down throughout the porch surface..but will if this nail down will causemorrefrustration.
Has anyone done an installation of IPE as a T & G Floor? and how did you install?

thanks much..
Salieri

but don't try to nail it. You have to pre drill thru thr tongue and then use SS trim head screws to secure it to the joist. This is the only way to get a hardwood look that will last with IPE. Be sure to use SS screws....a lot of work but a very nice porch.
