Having some hardwood put on second level of my home. I was told that insulayment is good for noise reduction with nail down. However, when I ask all of the folks that have come to give us estimates, no one seems to know what it is. Is there another product that is recommend for noise reduction for nail down and/or anyone know a contractor in the San Francisco bay area that is familiar with insulayment.

We live in a three level townhouse and we occupy all floors. However, HOA is still saying we need something for noise reduction.

My husband doesn't like the feel of float. What are the pro/cons of float vs nail down?

thanks

You could look into Floor Muffler underlayment. It is basically a foam pad with the highest stc and iic rating on the market. They recommend it for nail/staple down installation too. HOA requirements for stc/iic is around 50 and this product is rated at 70+.
