Sorry, but where does it say he intends to install new flooring on the first floor?

Also my floors are also subfloor as well as finish in the second story of my house.

I see no mention that he intends to redo the first floor. For all we know, it could be this stone he has been talking about. So, I am not almost right, but rather, exactly right.

I thought his description of where he intended to install new flooring was a bit vague. He said that the existing floor is badly worn in high traffic areas, and I assume the bottom of the stairs is a high traffic area.

Looking at it from a homeowner or novice point of view, adding a layer of flooring to the first floor is easy ... just butt the new wood against the first riser. But he was sharp enough to pick up on the problem at the top of the stairs, and asked for advice.

Maybe I'm r4eading too much into the situation. But my experience has been that the description provided is frequently lacking in many key details, and I was trying to point out something that might have been overlooked.

Yes, you are exactly right, assumning the first floor will noit have any work. I'm not trying to bust your chops, just pointing out another perspective.
