Hi All,
So we're finally to the tough part of the house. We have a split level with a sunken den which happens to be the only part of the house that's on a slab. For this application we decided to go with 3/8 solid red oak (Bellawood). The original plan was to do a glue down (moisture barrier / adhesive combo) directly to the slab, but after doing more research I'm thinking that might just be a little to involved. We've never done a glue down and I'm not sure I want to start experimenting now. I'm under the gun to get this done before our first baby comes.
Now the plan is to lay down poly for moisture and then 3/4" CDX over the that, attach everything with tapcons and then do a standard nail down with the flooring. However, the other day I peeled up the carpet and found old 60's linoleum staring back at me. I understand that old linoleum products used asbestos and with a baby on the way I don't really want to take any chances with trying to scrape it. That said, could the linoleum just end up being an added moisture barrier? Does anyone see any problem with just leaving it in place?
This will be my first hardwood over concrete install so if anyone has any words of wisdom in general i'd appreciate it.
Btw, I'm in southern California if that makes any difference.
