I am installing reclaimed 12 inch wide hard wood flooring in a Restaurant Dining Room.

If I am not using Tongue and Groove, are the Nails going to be a problem every time I want to Sand it and Refinish it.

I appreciate your help.

Drill 3-4 plugs across the plank in the plank and screw into the joists, then wood plugs of a contrasting species, to give it the peg and plank look.

Very rustic.

The plug is a good idea to solve the problem of future sanding. Although if you maintain the finsh, you shouldn't need to sand.

It is impossible, and not expected, to fasten every plank to a joist, unless your joists are exactly 12" OC, and the plank is the exact corresponding width. Even then ...you wouldn't be using a sufficient number of fasteners. Your subfloor needs to be adequate for this type of installation.

I've often wondered, why you couldn't just use counter snap scews.Maybe not cost effective.
