Hi folks, I am just finishing up my woodworking shop and am getting ready to lay some maple 3/4" flooring. I bought some maple flooring recently on an auction site and got a GREAT deal. I have installed oak flooring before and understand how to install it pretty much, but I noticed that the maple flooring I just bought doesnt have T&G on the ends. Is that going to be a problem? I'm guessing if I just butt them together and stagger the seams I wont have any problem??? I'm used to doing oak that has T&G on all 4 sides. Appreciate your help. By the way, I got the flooring (hard maple clear) 3/4" by 4" face and 2" face for less than a buck a square foot. I plan to do a few rows of the 4" then some 2" and so on in a random pattern. Thanks for your help!!

I'd at least staple the ends of the 4" boards,to minimize squeaks caused by movement at the end joints.
With cheap flooring,I'd be willing to bet the ends aren't perfectly square. You may end up cutting both ends of each board to get a tight fit.

Yes I would definitely also recommend stapling the ends of the boards. We did this a lot when working out in the bay area in California. It was common to put in irregular hardwood floor because people liked the look. I still can't believe you got the flooring for that clean. Also, because of the staples you are going to put in it, you might want to throw an extra layer of polyurethane on it for feel. Good luck! :)
