Hello
I have 1000 board ft of 4” Jatoba (Brazilian cherry) ¾” solid, nail down, that I am getting ready to have installed. House on piers 3 ft off ground.
It is tongue and grove but the ends (the 4” edge) ARE NOT tongue and grove.
Is this a problem?

The flooring is a no name product and is about 6 years old, it has been stored in my garage for 2 years.
I was thinking of routing a grove in the ends and having the installers use splines.
I also thought I might screw and plug where the ends butt after installation
Would any of this be necessary?

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions, comments.
Thanks in advance
Danny

Personally, I think it's a problem. End matching ( what T&G on the butts is called ) helps with overwood/underwood on the butts. This can be a big problem with S. American milled flooring. Plus it will help those butts stay flush with each other. You could try milling your own. B. Cherry is very hard and will wear out cutters very fast. Perhaps screwing and plugging would be easiest if this floor is to be sanded. I'd use two screws per side so an end butt looks like this :l:
