Aloha - I live in Hawaii and am remodeling a garage space to use as living space and would like to put hardwood flooring over the concrete. My carpenter wants to put in 2X6 framing first, then plywood, then install the hardwood. Is there a way to install the wood floor directly on the concrete? It is not totally level, but the building is 90 years old and I don't want to bust up the old concrete and pour a new floor.

I read about first laying a moisture barrier (yes, it rains a lot here, and the humidity is high, and we will not have air conditioning so the wood will have the same moisture contents as the weather) and then applying the wood floor over the moisture barrier. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks for your help!

If this is solid wood that your wanting to install, and not an engineered cross-ply, made especially for gluing or floating over concrete, then the sleepers and plywood is the way to go.

DO NOT PUT A SOLID DIRECTLY ON THE CONCRETE!!!!!!!!!
