Just finished room #1 feeling pretty good !! Now wanting to install a 10" walnut border. The plan is 10" of oak on the perimeter, then 10" of walnut, then all oak from there. Working with 5" and 7" old resawn. Should we step or 45 the corners ?? Does anybody use a biscuit joined ?? Just wondering.....

Stepped at 90 degrees is normal. It was very common to install like that in New England back in the 50's and 60's . One trick is to use spline in areas where you need to turn a groove into a tongue.

Thanks Paul, trying for that one step above country. The building is over 150 years old and is going to be used as a Real Estate office. So far the project has been fun, will post pics when we get it done. First room was all 5" boards this one will have a few 7' mixed in.

I agree. I would also step it rather than 45.
